I’ve been working on increasing the rankings a site called uncensored newsgroups. I’ve managed to get it out of some filter. It was stuck on page 13 forever. I think it was too many tag pages in my sitemap. It seems that causes the Goog to filter out the site. The other big problem I’ve seen is using the Google translate plugin. That causes major problems. Had to block those pages completely using the robots.txt file.
In general, don’t have too many junk pages, they will just come back to haunt you. Also, watch out for how to open rar files. It is a trick that not too many people know and can really make a difference.
One of my other theories is that bad html can really chock up the search bots, so fix html issues fast. You can do that that the html validator. It’s great at telling you what the issues are and how to fix them.
One last thing, speed up your site. Google likes things fast.
